The Cannes Film Festival was historically held as a way for serious actors, directors, and artist to protest Mussolini's propaganda film festivals v during his fascist reign. Not wanting to become a part of the war machine rolling out of Mussolini's Italy, the Cannes Film Festival started by offering the world's film community a venue to celebrate their successes each year. The festival offered a brief respite to the gloom of the times and grew into what is today the largest international film festival.

Visitors to Cannes will be able to do more than star gaze in this lovely beach side town.
